Position Title: Director of Contemporary Music

Job Overview
The Director of Contemporary Music for Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church should have a strong Christian faith, a commitment to lead United Methodist Worship, a heart for worship of our Lord, and a commitment to contemporary and other non-traditional styles of worship. Working cooperatively with the Pastors and other worship leaders, the individual will be expected to envision and implement a program of contemporary and non-traditional music benefitting the entire congregation, with particular emphasis on the 10:45 AM Arise service. This person will also interface regularly and cooperatively with other staff members, the Worship Branch and the congregation.
Qualifications
· Experience in leading music for contemporary and other non-traditional worship
· Experience in leading a mixed instrumental and vocal ensemble for worship
· Demonstrated ability to work well with people of all ages
· Instrumental and vocal gifts are required, with the ability to read music well in treble and bass clefs, along with a functional understanding of music theory, chord structures, harmonization and transposition; a college degree in music is preferred.
· Eager willingness to follow through on the stated Vision and Mission of this congregation as it relates to worship.
· A strong, mature and growing relationship with Jesus Christ
· Commitment to work as part of a Worship Team
Duties and Responsibilities
· Lead the music portions of the Contemporary Worship Services, engaging the congregation in worship.
· Participate with pastoral staff, Worship Branch, and Arise Design Team in planning and developing the Arise worship service
· Recruit and direct a team of singers, instrumentalists, and technical support staff in effort to create a spiritually moving and engaging musical experience.
· Select music for the Arise worship service in coordination and communication with the pastoral staff and Arise Design Team
· Rehearse the Arise band, soloists, and instrumentalists on a weekly basis
· Work with audio and video teams at the Arise services
· Take responsibility for all administrative functions, i.e. organization of music library; provision for security and maintenance of church-owned instruments and equipment; proper documentation and reporting of music license use, and arrangement for substitute in his/her absence
· Attend weekly staff meetings (as schedule permits), scheduled Worship Branch and Arise Design Team meetings
· Plan and implement music outreach programs, to serve the community beyond our church’s walls
· Collaborate, when appropriate, with other Mt. Pisgah Music Staff in the selection, preparation and presentation of music
· Accept additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by Senior Pastor
Knowledge and Skills Required
· Broad appreciation of and experience with all types of Christian music
· Demonstrable vocal abilities along with demonstrable keyboard and/or guitar abilities to engage the congregation in song.
· Proficient knowledge of audio and video equipment and technology; have a desire to keep such skills current with changing technology
· Organizational skills and computer skills appropriate for assigned responsibilities including but not limited to MS Office and email.
· Technical skills are preferred, such as an understanding of MediaShout, PowerPoint , and audio/video editing software or a willingness and ability to learn such programs
Details of Employment:
· Classification: Professional Staff, Part Time, 10 – 15 hours per week
· Benefits: Vacation - 2 weeks
· Reporting Relationship - Senior Pastor
· Mt. Pisgah Relationships – Staff-Parish Liaison, Worship Branch Steward, Director of Music and Worship Arts, the Associate Pastor, and the other full and part-time staff
Other Details:
· Follow the Personnel Manual of Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church and agree to a pre-employment background check.
· Additional opportunities for service and pay are occasionally available through funerals, weddings and special events scheduled in the Christian Family Life Center.
· Voluntarily participating in the general life of Mt. Pisgah UMC beyond the music program is encouraged.
Mt. Pisgah is seeking to hire a Director of Contemporary Music to be a part of a worship leadership team. The position is 15 hours per week at an annual salary of $14,000 with a starting date no later than October 15, 2010. The complete job description is on the Mt. Pisgah web page.
